I'm Torn

Seriously, heart being in the right place n all that, amateur camcorder footage of Vernon lectures would have been made available non-commercially.

But no, this way they can get people to spend 200 quid on a few grainy, shaky, jittery, incomplete home movies. Claiming them to be a "free bonus" is laughable.

How many are paying the dough for a duplicate set of Revelations and a nice slip case? Any takers? Thought not.

Shame on you, L&L.

I am also torn. For me the problem is that I own the "Revelations" DVD set already, and wish that I could purchase the new DVDs separately. of not, one of my friends may be getting a set of the Revelations DVDs!

As I've noted elsewhere, I'm pretty much resigned to just biting down hard on a pencil and bending over for this. Look out for a nice competition to win my duplicate revelations DVDs.

After extensive research, here are some suggestions from the net...

*I have stuck several DVDs low down to a fence in a shady part of my garden which reflects sunlight onto the normally shaded flower bed. The extra sunlight makes plants that usually grow in full sun to thrive in the shady area.

*Zzip-tie a string of cd's together. On the last CD in the string, drill out a small notch big enough to lock into a vertical blind holder.

*You can make a guitar pick by tracing a real guitar pick and cutting it out.

*Glue a lid of an old sports bottle lid (the one you open by pulling the valve, I forget what's it called) or a dish-washing detergent lid to the hole of a CD. Next, you blow a balloon with air then, trying not to lose any air, pop the balloon onto the lid. Place the hovercraft on a smooth surface, a glass table is good. A great toy for kids.

No need to thank me.

I bit the bullet and placed my order....

Now to decide who gets my old set

My Friend didn't have copies and so he purchased the whole set. We watched the lectures yesterday (the new freebies! HA) and two things stood out that intrigued me (more than the rest perhaps as all of it was good if not A/V perfect)..the two things being...

1) The one card hand muck where he has a card palmed and then checks a face down card on the table and a switch is made. Is this in print in the Vernon literature?

2) The Hofzinser bottom palm hand-to-hand transfer. Is this in one of the Hofzinser books?

Enjoying the blog. Hurrah for strong opinions.

Not having seen the footage, I can only guess that it was the hole card switch from Revelations (was on my mucking video if I recall).

The Hofzinser moves are described briefly in Hofzinser's Card Conjuring.

Probably the most underrated book of all time.

I had a video up of the palm and transfer a while ago. Few realize just how perfect these techniques are.

Upon further research you're dead right Mr. Mule.

Someone on the Cafe correctly pointed out that it was a hole-card switch from the Revelations book and 2) the transfer is an utterly awesome move.

Didn't really give it much thought seeing it briefly talked about on the revelations Videos but in these older lectures it really cam across as a something with great utility and, in Vernon's hands anyway, a marvel of close-up deception.

These lectures are priceless IMO.

I have bought the Hofzinser book from Lybrary and as Steve Freeman notes on Revelations, its a very brief paragraph discussing the transfer.

I also note that in Revelations Vernon advises using two fingers curled under like a back-handed palm whereas in the lectures he uses the original Hofzinser method.

In my article about the Hofzinser moves, I pointed out the importance of context.

The key to the transfer is not a back palm grip as Vernon suggests, but rather the grip that you naturally come to upon executing the bottom palm (though Vernon achieved a similar goal).

In turn, the bottom palm is also made more natural by the move preceding it: the under spread cull.
